Where to look for Fossils at Cromarty?

The famous Fish Beds of Cromarty. The path is marked by a board explaining about ‘High Miller’, his house is also open to the public as he lived in Cromarty and the local museum also has specimens from his collection and information on him. Cromarty is mentioned a lot in his novels with many complete fish specimens being found. The fish are found in Limestone Nodules, Elongated, round but also flat. Because erosion in Scotland is slow due to both the land rising and also the hard rocks, nodules rarely become exposed and with so many collectors around, there is little chance of finding any fish. This is an SSSI site, hammering rocks is not allowed although ironically you can take any fossil material from the beach. Of course any nodules which are around would require a hammer to split them in the first instance.
